AUSCHWITZ MUSEUM

Auschwitz has become a global symbol of terror, genocide, and the Holocaust. Established by the Germans in 1940 in the suburbs of Oświęcim, a Polish city annexed by Nazi Germany, its name was changed to Auschwitz, which also became the name of the concentration camp, Konzentrationslager Auschwitz. The post-camp remains are preserved by the museum, established in 1947. Today, the Memorial includes archives, collections, as well as a research, conservation, and publishing center. Admission to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial is free, but entry passes must be reserved in advance at visit.auschwitz.org. To deepen your understanding of Auschwitz's history, we recommend a guided tour.
